Hong Viet Dung was born and grew up in Hanoi. He graduated from Hanoi University of Fine Arts in 1984.
Becoming a famous painter by his unique style of oil painting, his most favorite subjects are: Portraits of young girls, monks with bird, fan, or lotus, a small boat lying quietly in a vast body of water, forests of bamboo or palm…He uses oil in primary shades that depict the essence of simple color, such as green, light brown, white. His masterful plays of these hues result in paintings that are simple yet not monotonous like the melodies of folk songs or the verses of poetry.
